Lianne Y. Smit (2003, China/ The Netherlands) is a multidisciplinary artist.
Through her artistic practice, Lianne aims to understand how people navigate situations that are difficult to articulate, repeat or process. She captures and reinterprets everyday life, to dissect how we digest personal experiences.
In her graduation work Lianne directs her family and actors in reenacted and hypothetical scenarios that examine the language, gestures and behaviors that emerge around grief. Through these vulnerable themes, she questions what is considered socially acceptable and what kinds of assumptions and prejudices shape the ways people respond to loss, intimacy and identity.
By using scores as a foundation for video and performance, Lianne aims for connection in these recognizable but fleeting moments of everyday life.
